Hare Coursing in Angus, Scotland.

Hare coursers who have recently been regularly targeting the Angus area have threatened to “burn down” a farm after being approached by the landowner.

A local farmer says that the problem has increased in recent years. In calling for a police crackdown he said that he had reported numerous incidents to the police in the last two years.

Hare coursing is the pursuit of hares with greyhound type dogs that hunt by sight. It is illegal in the U.K. Hare coursers are particularly active at this time of year as hares are easier to spot in stubble when fields have been harvested. They will often drive across fields following the dogs rather than walking.

These actions were condemned by the Scottish SPCA who, it was recently revealed had raided Millden Estate in Glen Esk as part of a major investigation into animal fighting. Both they and the police urged residents to report any suspicious activity.
