Call for NatureScot Chair to be Investigated:

NatureScot (formerly Scottish Natural Heritage) is hitting the headlines yet again for all the wrong reasons. This time Rob Edwards at The Ferret is reporting that NatureScot withdrew an objection to a development after ‘serious heat’ from its chair, Mike Cantlay and in spite concerns by staff.

The Board are appointed “to decide the strategic direction of NatureScot – within the framework of the policy, planning and resources set by Scottish Ministers.” This would not generally include involvement in day to day planning decisions.

Andy Wightman, the former Green MSP has called for an investigation and says that Cantlay should “consider his position” if he is found to have acted inappropriately. The Scottish Greens, warned that “serious questions” have to be asked about Cantlay’s intervention.

NatureScot says on its website “we work to improve our natural environment in Scotland and inspire everyone to care more about it.” Really?
