Police investigation into Illegal Seal Shooting

The Ferret Scotland is reporting that Police Scotland is investigating an incident on 17th March this year when a seal was allegedly shot at a fish farm on the west coast of Scotland.

The investigation is ongoing but shooting a seal with a gun to protect farmed salmon has been illegal in Scotland since 1st February 2021 after the Scottish government stopped issuing licences. This move was to protect Scotland’s farmed salmon exports to the US which is banning exports from countries that allow seals to be killed to protect fisheries.

We will watch developments with interest.

This is an ongoing investigation so we will not be taking comments.
