Dog Pack Attacks Livestock

A worrying report of an apparently out of control pack of dogs chasing a cow and calf across fields in Derbyshire has featured on social media. The terrified calf jumps several dry stone dykes in its desperate and futile attempts to escape until finally one of the individuals with the dogs manages to call them off as the calf lunges over a stone wall topped with barbed wire and escapes. This is the sort of problem that the National Farmer’s Union (NFU) and the Countryside Alliance (CA) are very concerned about and we are sure they will be mobilising their resources to call for strong action against the individuals involved. Although this blog is concerned with wild mammal persecution, uncontrolled packs of dogs are a hazard for all creatures in the countryside and we will be happy to support the NFU and CA when they condemn this irresponsible behaviour.
